FLO Friday: Responsible AI Use in the Classroom - Starting Conversations with Students
Facilitator: Adina Gray
Host: Helena Prins
BCcampus webinar recorded May 30, 2025
In this one-hour FLO Friday session, we explore how educators can have practical, supportive conversations with students about responsible AI use. Instead of focusing on bans or fears, this session will offer simple strategies for guiding student thinking, setting clear expectations, and fostering ethical and thoughtful use of generative AI tools. Participants will leave with examples of starter questions, syllabus language, and classroom activities they can adapt to their own courses, as well as a clear approach to discussing AI with students positively and openly.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify common concerns and opportunities around student use of AI in learning contexts
- Explore sample strategies for introducing AI conversations into their own classrooms
- Draft a simple, adaptable statement or activity to set expectations for responsible AI use
- Reflect on how to frame AI discussions to encourage academic integrity and student agency
