FLO Workshop (April 23, 2025)
Beyond the Black Box – An Introduction to Algorithm Literacy and Classroom Considerations
Facilitator: Britt Dzioba
Host: Helena Prins
Today’s students navigate a world where algorithms determine what information they see, what opportunities they access, and how they’re evaluated. From social media feeds to landing a job, algorithms shape our lives in ways that are sometimes hard to see. As educators, we have a crucial role in helping students recognize, understand, and critically assess these systems. Join us for this interactive session on algorithms and algorithmic literacy, where you will be introduced to the underlying mechanics of algorithms, how they shape our digital (and physical) world, and strategies for bringing algorithmic literacy and awareness into your teaching practice. No technical background required!
